Michael Nees, the Amavubi Stars head coach

Michael Nees, the Amavubi Stars head coach, believes the week-long training camp in the Senegalese capital Dakar will be of great value in helping his team’s preparation for Sunday’s CAN 2008 qualifier against Liberia. The 20-man delegation arrived in Dakar yesterday afternoon, following a night stopover Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday.

The Wasps fly out of Senegal for Monrovia, Liberia on Friday.
“I am positive about the week we are going to stay in Senegal. And if all the professionals I invited join us on time, then I’m confident training in camp would do us a great deal,” the German coach told Times Sport.

Nees has listed five European based professionals including Olivier Karekezi, Bobo Bolla (Sweden), Henry Munyaneza, Araf Bulanga and Claude Kalisa [Belgium] to boost his squad for the must-win clash against the West African lightweight.

Nees’ said before departure: “We’re going to Liberia with confidence. The boys are improving day by day and I believe the training camp (in Senegal) will do us a great of deal.”

Both Rwanda and Liberia would be looking for maximum points to restore confidence in their fans’ base, following defeats in their opening games against Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon respectively.

Liberia who fielded mainly home based players in their opening game against Equatorial Guinea, have reportedly listed eight professionals to strengthen their squad ahead of the Sunday’s clash.

According to Nees, Amavubi start its training camp today; and on Wednesday, it could play one training game against a top club in the Senegalese top division.
