Resignation Hangs Over LFA!

The president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Cllr. Sombo Izetta Wesley has escaped several attempts to unseat her at the helm of the country football, but pundits believe with the latest that veteran Liberian sports administrator, Josiah N.Johnson, alias JNJ is calling for her resignation means her days are numbered as president of the LFA.

www.liberiansoccer.com Senior Reporter Roland M. Mulabh leafs through the details of an interview with JNJ last week aim at finding a way where the country’s football can be on par with other top rated countries in the world.

It is an undeniable fact that Liberian football is in the doldrums. The Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) are having an unpalatable working relationship, the national team is in ruins and the national league is spice less as there are no sponsors and organizations.

The LFA is on record as the only FA in the world without a Public Relations officer (PRO) as well as the only FA in the world without website.

There is no effective well structured program with the idea of youth football promotion where there would be a systematic sort of promotion being completely ignored.

Liberian football is certainly at a disgraceful state and we are still in a minnow status as far as contemporary football on the continent is concerned.

With the world’s popular sport dieing a natural death and soon to be interred in a country that has the enviable record of producing African football legend, George Oppong Manneh Weah who showed cased his talent in Europe where he became FIFA world footballer of the year 1995 as well as other lucrative awards, it is quite a paradox that the country's football is soon to be forgotten if nothing concrete is done in the midst of talented players and some veteran administrators.

These are just few of the many reasons why veteran Liberian sports administrator, Josiah N. Johnson, alias JNJ is calling for the resignation of the current leadership of the LFA to step down so an interim leadership can come to the fore to run the country’s football until the LFA elections in March, 2010.

JNJ, as he is famously called in Liberian sporting circle, believe there is a need to bring on board new administrators at the helm of the country's football who have the urge, desire and commitment in driving the country's game forward.

With vision and innovation lacking at the zenith of the country's football, it is quite realistic for the game to be completely revolutionized according to the veteran.

“Izetta and the entire leadership of the LFA lack the vision to drive the country’s football forward.

“It is expedient for the current leadership to resign and an interim leadership form to drive the country’s football forward until the LFA elections in March, 2010,” veteran Liberian sports administrator told journalist last week.

Meanwhile, what can be considered a bogus act in contemporary football has come to the forefront with the latest that the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has suspended or banned www.liberiansoccer.com, Champions Sports and Sportsday Senior Reporter, Roland M. Mulbah from entering all facilities of the local football house on grounds that the 2008 Sports writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) sports columnist award winner and LFA 2008 best reporter had done story concerning the missing of more than US$53,000.00 from the LFA account.

The bogus act by the LFA has been condemn in many quarters including SWAL, considering the act as a violation of Article-13(a) of the Liberian Constitution which states that every person lawfully within the republic shall have the right to move freely throughout Liberia.

SWAL also sees the decision taken by the LFA as an affront to all sports writers who have worked tirelessly in ensuring that football in Liberia gets the widest media coverage.

There has been no time in the world where FIFA, CAF, WAFU or other top rated sporting institutions banned a journalist who had been very critical and exposing devilish acts aim at killing the game.
