The Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) has postponed its two-day Symposium. The ceremony  failed to take place at the LNOC headquarters on Benson Street in Monrovia due to the recent violence in Monrovia.

The Chairman of the Program Committee of the Symposium, S. Ahmad Tukpah said the public would be notified as per the new date of the event that was originally scheduled to  begin on October 29 and run up to October 30.

Tukpah, also president of the Swimming Federation, outlined topics to be discussed as the Origin and Ideals of the Olympic Movement, IOC Programs and Policy, The Past, Present and Future of the LNOC as well as the Olympic Movement and Societal Issues.

Mr. Tukpah named the expected lecturers as Professor Joseph Narmah, former LNOC Treasurer Mr. Weaka Peters, LNOC Vice President Philibert Browne and Bill Frank Enoanyi, a veteran journalist.

According to Tukpah, the participants will comprise athletes, the public, schools and members of the LNOC.

"We wish to empower our middle class managers administratively and educate the youths on the ideals of the Olympic Movement," stated Mr. Tukpah.

Adding, Tukpah said the Symposium tends to educate the people on the effect the Olympics have on the larger society.
