Montserrado squeezes through

Montserrado County football team has made it to the last eight of the National County Sports Meet.

Momtserrado humiliated poorly concentrated Maryland County 2-0 on Sunday at a well attended Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

Although the Bensonville boys won the match it was Maryland who started the pairing well by making several treats.

Sam Doco played a through ball in the path of Wallata Moore but the striker poorly glanced the real opportunity.

Another lovely move by Maryland County was wasted by Raymond Kanneth who struck off target a Cyrus Gibson gifted pass.

Montserrado soon rejuvenated and began to match their Sunday’s opponents.

A Sylvanus Nimneh free flowing cross was met in the box by Kelvin Kollie who did so well to poke it home on 52nd as his side went 1-0 up.

They got energized by the goal and could have got their second 5 minutes later when Emmanuel Wennah headed wide a Teacher Toe volley but it was not until the the 70th minute when they really got their second goal.

Labarm Varney was fouled some 20 yeards from goal and Charles Kumeh decisively struck the eventual dead ball to accomblish his side’s mission.

In Buchanan, Grand Bassa County came from a goal down to hold Bong County to a one all draw.

There was a draw pairing in Zedrew as Grand Cape Mount County played Grand Gedeh County to a disappointing goaless draw.

Nimba whipped River Gee County 2-1 in the other football encounter of the day.

In kickball, Maryland County scored a superior 15 to 7 home runs victory over Montserrado County.

Grand Cape Mount County also defeated Grand Gedeh County 20-14 home runs in kickball.

The competition has mainwhile taken a break to resume on 10 January.
