Montserrado County football team has made it to the last eight of the
National County Sports Meet.
Momtserrado humiliated poorly concentrated Maryland County 2-0 on
Sunday at a well attended Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Although the Bensonville boys won the match it was Maryland who
started the pairing well by making several treats.
Sam Doco played a through ball in the path of Wallata Moore but the
striker poorly glanced the real opportunity.
Another lovely move by Maryland County was wasted by Raymond Kanneth
who struck off target a Cyrus Gibson gifted pass.
Montserrado soon rejuvenated and began to match their Sunday’s
opponents.
A Sylvanus Nimneh free flowing cross was met in the box by Kelvin
Kollie who did so well to poke it home on 52nd as his side went 1-0
up.
They got energized by the goal and could have got their second 5
minutes later when Emmanuel Wennah headed wide a Teacher Toe volley
but it was not until the the 70th minute when they really got their
second goal.
Labarm Varney was fouled some 20 yeards from goal and Charles Kumeh
decisively struck the eventual dead ball to accomblish his side’s
mission.
In Buchanan, Grand Bassa County came from a goal down to hold Bong
County to a one all draw.
There was a draw pairing in Zedrew as Grand Cape Mount County played
Grand Gedeh County to a disappointing goaless draw.
Nimba whipped River Gee County 2-1 in the other football encounter of
the day.
In kickball, Maryland County scored a superior 15 to 7 home runs
victory over Montserrado County.
Grand Cape Mount County also defeated Grand Gedeh County 20-14 home
runs in kickball.
The competition has mainwhile taken a break to resume on 10 January.
