Premiership outfit Liberia-FCAK renamed Monrovia FC has
enhanced their squad ahead of the national football league
with report that Monrovia FC has signed some several
upcoming stars.
"We are happy to announce the signing of the fast winger
Hilton Varney, defensive, hard working midfielder Varney
Fobia, and creative midfielder Andrew Nagbe and upcoming
goals scorer, striker Abraham Kamara. Welcome to Monrovia FC
boys!", a statement released by the club read.
The club is also expected to import Akeem Aminu, a central
defender from the Nigerian Pepsi Academy; the tall and fast
Nigerian will join a defense with quality players like
Archie Zeah and Al-Hassan Kromah already in the line-up.
The club preseason technical staff is built around Coach
Aki, formerly of Nimba FC, who is to head Monrovia FC's
pre-season trainings together with newly promoted Assistant
Coach (and former Monrovia FC player) Momo Kpadeh. Former
Handball Star Louis Flemister will also run a physical
programme for the team to enhance the strength and speed of
players.
The club Norwegian CEO said, "We have spent approximately
$3,000 totaling (Two Hundred and Sixteen Thousand Liberian
Dollars) $216,000LD on signings so far, so well behind
Fassell FC and we intend to keep developing young players
instead of spending money on mature and expensive ones where
the clubs demand an unreasonable amount, but we are yet to
close our signing book", Wilhelm Myrer narrated.
Since the introduction of the Norwegian (Wilhelm Myrer) to
Liberian football, Monrovia FC have exported more than half
dozens of Liberians to the Swedish middle leagues.
Liberians players that were exported include Taurus Manneh,
Desmond Richards and Wilfred Greenfield to 2nd division
Carlsdat United BK; James Teaway Jr. to 4th Division VIK IF;
forward Kpah Sherman signed with Harnosand FF; Eddie Yah
sent to Sundsvall IFK and Prince Somah, who is currently on
the next season roaster of Sundsvall IFK, but honoring
tryout in Sweden for any option to advance to the top level.
The soccer career of Lone Star's trusted goal-keeper
Nathaniel Sherman, who also plays for UMC Roots FC
international, continues to receive boost since he took over
from internationals Sunday Seah and veteran goalie Louis
Crayton.
Sherman has been handed the post since the arrival of
Italian Roberto Landi as head coach of the national team to
replace the late Hungarian Bertalan Bisckie. The late
Bisckie started a journey that ended as a failed dream for
the Bility Administration to secure a qualification slot for
Liberia to the Nations Cup.
Sherman arrived at the national team ahead of Liberia Vs
Ivory Coast first leg played in Ghana, and since then he has
blocked Galley James of Watanga FC, Sam Cooper transferred
to BYC from Mighty Barrolle and suspended LPRC Oilers shoot
stopper Saylee Sweh.
Although currently considered as the best for the country,
fear expressed on his face during international matches are
having less impact on the man during these days, but fans
vividly read the fear on Sherman's face during Lone Star's
1-0 home victory against Cape Verde in Monrovia about two
months ago.
His appearance between the poles for the Lone Star has
shifted the national team local contingent in a better
position, protected in forward by a couple of local
defenders: Teah Dennis, Alpha James and Morris Karba.
According to Roberto Landi during his first interview months
ago at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, his dream is to
establish a solid local base team, and Liberians are seeing
it from the local goal keepers and defenders he inherited
from the late Bertalan Bisckie.
