In LFA Natl. League:
Millennium Stars Begin Campaign On Winning
Note
-As NPA Anchors Can’t Stop Winning
May 1, 2003
As the race for the various championships heat up in
the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National league, John Ballah’s
Millennium FC on Saturday, April 26 began her campaign in the second
division on a winning note.
Playing her first game in the league, the
Millennium Stars FC squad, despite missing the services of players
Todd Bryant and goalie Ezekiel Doegbah and Solo, drew the first blood
against Mighty Electrons.
A midfield build-up resulted into the first
goal. Playing the first half of the match as though their lives were
on the line, Millennium boys did all they could in all departments of
the game as they scored two additional goals to end the half, 3-0.
Back from recess, Mighty Electrons refashioned
and gave Millennium her money’s worth. The ELWA-based squad came out
of their shell and scored two quick goals that sent chills through the
spine of Millennium players and supporters.
Had it not been for the good goal keeping of
Millennium goalie, the match would have ended on a 3-3 note.
Millennium won the match 3-2 to the relief of supporters and fans.
In the other game on Saturday, LMA Green Pepper beat Small Town, 1-0,
while the last game saw Haja FC and BYC drawing 1-1.
On Friday, April 25, Blanco FC beat Pointer
Sisters 2-0 in the female division, while Cardinals went down to St.
Joseph Warriors, 2-1.
On yesterday, LTC Satellite went down to
Sounjata Warriors of Logan Town, 2-1 in the first match in the second
division, while Karn United dragged Devereux, 3-0. It was Devereux
second defeat from two games in the league.
The last match saw coach Frank Jerico
Nagbe’s NPA Anchors beating Pennoh Bestman’s Black Star, 2-1 in a
highly contested match.
The victory is NPA Anchors’ third from
three games in the league, meaning the Anchors have a 100% winning
record thus far.
Captained by Francis “Razak” Carr, NPA Anchors
took the game to Black Star and won the three points.
