The first Liberian to play in the group stage of
the African Champions League, Ben Mccarthy Martins says he is hungry
for a fresh challenge after his successful two year s spell at Zambian
league champ ZESCO UNITED.
At 23, the twelve capped international is
thinking on bigger things as he is keen to move to another league
after his exploits in Zambia where he led ZESCO to two league titles
scoring 12 goals in his first season, and 14 in the second. Having
played 14 games in all in African Champions league, the gangling
forward has his sight set on the big stage of European soccer. " I
believe i have showed case my talent sufficiently in Zambia, and i
want to move on to a bigger league mainly in Europe", the former Roots
FC, LISCR FC and Mighty Barrolle deadly forward told liberian
soccer.com.
Currently on holiday in Monrovia, Martins is of
the conviction that he will get the opportunity to move on, and only
need to be injury free, be fit always and as well patient.
He indicated "I have tasted the rigor of Zambian
football. The league there is based on strength and speed, and it has
developed me a lot". Regarded as a bubbling forward for his
indefatigable hunt for goals and admirable work ethic, the ZESCO
hit-man is looking on.
The dangerman who is now a free agent after
ending his two seasons with the Zambian electrical company, ZESCO, has
certainly proved his worth in the Southern African nation as well the
African champions league and is yearning for future glory.
"I am grateful to God that i was able to play
against some of the best players and teams on the continent. It was a
wonderful experience for me, and playing against clubs from Nigeria,
Sudan, kenya, Ivory Coast, Mali ect. was delightful", the pacy forward
who made his international debut for the Amavubis of Rwanda in the
LOne Star 3-2 win during the 2008 Nations Cup Qualifiers highlighted.
