MYS Reaches Out

Deputy Sports Minister for
Administration Marbue Richards

As part of its plan in reaching out to assess sporting facilities in
the various counties, the Deputy Sports Minister for Administration
Marbue Richards left the Capital over the weekend to visit Bong and
Nimba counties.
Minister Richards who was accompanied by the Director of Sports,
Navarro Saykie, Deputy Female Coach Weah Wesseh and U-20 Female
Captain Dekontee Sayon were well received on arrival in Gbarnga,
Bong County by Mr. Joseph Fredrick who chairs the LFA
Sub-Association in that County.
During the 2-hour visit in Gbarnga, the MYS delegation was given the
opportunity to tour several sporting facilities including the
Gbarnga Sports Stadium, the Basketball Court at A.G Gboveh High
School, the W.V.S. Tubman-Gray High School Gym and the Basketball
Court at the Catholics Mission Compound.
The MYS delegation than left Bong County for Ganta, Nimba County
where they were given a warmly received by Saye Sylvester Paye and
the LFA Sub-Association Chairman Peter Richard.
The MYS visiting team was taken to the residence of the Ganta City
Major, Nohu Tensonnou, where a brief closed door meeting was held
with the City Major.
Following the meeting, the City officials thanked Minister Richards
and party for the visit and welcomed the ideas that the Ministry is
interested in listening to what the people have to say regarding
sports.
The City Major was quoted as expressing her delight that Lone Star
Captain Dekontee Sayon was part of the delegation which she believes
would help encourage other females, especially players of the teams
in Ganta, Nimba County.
As a means of making their visit more colorful, a football match was
played in which the National U-20 female captain Dekontee Sayon
featured for the female team which clashed with a male team. The
match ended one all. Ten 10-year old Goulere Peter was the Star
player of the match.
This latest move by the MYS has been highly welcomed by many
football followers describing it as the right step for the
development of Sports in the country.
