Mighty Barrolle proved her supremacy over the newly crowned
champions, Invincible Eleven, of the just ended Liberia Football
Association National League, with a 2-1 victory at the Samuel Kanyan
Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville on Saturday, November 3, 2007. The
game was part of ceremonies marking the official opening of the
Sports Complex after renovation work by the Chinese Government.
The title of the tournament was “WHO OWNS THE SKD SPORTS COMPLEX”
and this game was witnessed by Hundreds of
spectators, including foreign guests who were invited by the
Government of Liberia to grace the occasion.
Both teams fielded veteran players including Dionysius Sebwe and
Friday Roberts for Mighty Barrolle and Jonathan Sewbie (Boye
Charles), Musa Shannon, JanJay Jacobs and Joe Nagbe for Invincible
Eleven.
The match started at about 5pm Liberian time with both teams putting
up splendid performance to the delight of the spectators. It was not
until the 20th minute of the first half when Barrolle, through its
attacker Leonard Bill Hiah found the curtain raiser. I. E. fought
back relentlessly and in the 40th minute got the equalizer thus
ending the first half one all.
The second half commenced with Mighty Barrolle taking control of the
game as veteran midfielder Friday Roberts dictating the pace of the
game. Barrolle’s performance overwhelmed the Champions and in the
25th minute of the second half Little Lewis dribbled past I.E’s
defenders and scored the second and final goal of the match.
Invincible Eleven, I.E. fought back, but the steward defenders of
Mighty Barrolle thwarted their efforts. As one spectator said,
Barrolle performed to the wonders of the young generation and it was
amazing that the champions were made shadows of themselves.
At the end of full regulation, Mighty Barrolle claimed the DEED for the
complex like she did in the eighties when she won the “WHO OWNS
THE LAND” tournament by defeating I.E. 1-0.
