The Senior National Team of Liberia, the Lone Star is
currently under going training at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium in Monrovia in preparation for Liberia’s last
African Nations Cup Qualifier match against the Eagles of
Mali next month at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in
Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
Lone Star, headed by Deputy Coaches Thomas Kojo and Kelvin
Sebwe, Wednesday morning led the National team that
comprises only home based players into a practice match
against LPRC Oilers at the ATS. The match ended 3-0 in favor
of the Lone Star.
Two powerful strikes from LFA Premier League Champion LISCR
FC striker, Patrick Wleh and a perfect finish from Joshua
Morris were enough to destroy LPRC Oilers.
The match also saved as a pre-season challenge for the LPRC
Oilers ahead of the start of the 2011-2012 National Leagues
Season.
The head Coach of Lone Star, Roberto Landi, who is currently
out of the country is due back in town any time next week
for the big encounter against Mali, and he is expected to
record some foreign based players for the Mali match, after
the LFA said it was not going to invite any oversea player
for the match.
The LFA came up with the decision after the foreign based
players failed to perform against Zimbabwe to expectation
earlier this month in the African Nations Cup Qualifiers
match.
Zimbabwe trashed the Lone Star of Liberia 3-0, thus, ending
the country’s hope of qualifying for the competitions slated
for next year. It will jointly be hosted by Gabon and
Equatorial Guinea.
Ramous calculating in Monrovia suggests that the Liberia
Football Association is planning to sell Lone Star last
African Nations Cup Qualifier match to Mali, something which
s yet to be independently confirmed.
The ramous have it that the Malian delegation came into the
country three weeks ago under the pretext that they are in
Liberia to visit relatives for the Muslim Month of Ramadan,
and held negotiations with the L FA. The Liberia football
house has since rubbished the ramous.
