Ex
LoneStar Players: Vote Shannon

Former Lone Star striker & business entrepreneur Shannon
Two erstwhile influential and dependable players of the senior Lone
Star team, Dionysius Sebwe and Jonathan 'Boye Charles' Sogbie, have
thrown their weight behind their colleague Musa Shannon, for the post
of vice president for Administration at the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) in the forthcoming elections on Saturday, March 20,
2010.
The football veterans, who consider Shannon as the 'right choice' for
the LFA post, owing to his past local and international engagements in
the game, coupled with his business approach, are calling on
stakeholders to elect Shannon for the development and promotion of
Liberian football.
“We want to use this opportunity to categorically state that we the
former Lone Star players endorse the candidacy of Musa Shannon, who
played the game both nationally and internationally for the
development of the game in Liberia.
“Stakeholders are encouraged to vote Shannon for a business-like
football,” the former prolific strikers averred.
“For us, Shannon is the best person to occupy the post of vice
president for Administration at the football house owing to his
engagement in the game.
“It is about time that former football players took the helm of power
in the football house to contribute their quota to the advancement of
football in Liberia.
“We want to use this opportunity to call on the stakeholders to give
Shannon a chance by voting him,” former towering defender Sebwe
opined.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, March 8, 2010 at a local resort,
the erstwhile players also called on other former players to join the
campaign to sell Shannon for the post.
It can be recalled that the former Lone Star striker, who turned a
business entrepreneur, evidenced by his establishments, Nana's Lodge
in Grand Cape Mount County and Bella assa Hotel on 5th Street Sinkor,
called on stakeholders to cast their votes for him to enable him take
football to another level and make the game comparative with other
countries in Africa.
In January 2010, Shannon told stakeholders that when elected, the LFA
would be most transparent, the clubs empowered and that he would
harmonize all the parties involved in the game.
“My intention to run in the Liberia Football Association is owing to
the frustration of the current form of football in Liberia.
“The game is stagnant and there is no development in football which is
unacceptable.
“We will use our international contacts, commercialize the game and
empower the clubs to sustain themselves for the good of the game,” Mr.
Shannon averred.
Candidates who are qualified to contest the post of LFA vice president
along with Shannon are the president of Mighty Barrolle, Garmondeh
Karnga; incumbent vice president for Administration, Pennoh Bestman;
and premier outfit BYC FC president, Sekou Konneh.
The ex-Lone Star potent forwarder, Musa Shannon, who is now in the
private practice, is on record for receiving praises for his astute
leadership during his days with the Lone Star.
Musa Shannon, born August 1, 1975, graduated from Robert Morris
University in Pittsburgh in the United States of America (USA), where
he obtained a degree in Business Administration.
During his career in 1997, Shannon was scouted out while attending a
college by Tampa Bay Mutiny in major league soccer. In Tampa, Shannon
formed a partnership with Carlos Valderrama and tallied an impressive
20 goals.
He assisted fellow teammates who also scored seven other goals in 50
regular season games. Musa later played one game on loan from the
Mutiny to the Carolina Dynamo of the USISL.
In 2000, Shannon joined the Portuguese club Maritimo, a team he left
after two seasons after falling out with the team management, 'because
I was committed to the Liberian national team'.
He later played for Colorado Rapids, Vancouver Whitecaps, Kitchee in
Hong Kong and Nancheng FC, (a club from mainland China playing in Hong
Kong).
Reports have it that Musa Shannon was named Major League Soccer
Player, in the USA, for the month of April, 1999; he was selected by a
media panel from Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
