Lone
Star Lands In Mali
Gets Poor Reception ,Bob Zoe Yet To Arrive

June 3, 2005
The Liberia National team - the Lone Star - landed in the nest of the
Malian Eagles on Wednesday to sort things out with their counterparts
in continuation of the joint 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup
qualifiers.
Our Bamako Correspondent said the Lone Star, with a predominantly home
based squad, received a poor reception on arrival in Bamako Wednesday
because authorities of the local football house of Mali claimed they
did not receive a fix massage from the Liberia Football Association
(LFA) informing them of the team's date of arrival.

However, former International and Chief Referee Idrissa Kaba, a
polyglot who is on the delegation as an interpreter from the Ministry
of Youth and Sports had to move fast to rescue the situation.
Mr. Kaba pleaded with the hosts before they saw reason to attend to
the Liberia national team. The team is currently based in the City of
Segou, which is also the venue of the match slated for Sunday, June 5.
Our Correspondent indicated that the players are highly spirited and
they were said to have had a good training session yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, one of the four foreign base players, Bob Zeo, expected to
stiffen the squad is yet to arrive in Mali.
Striker Zeo, who plies his trade with Ghanaian Premiership side Kpondi
Hearts of Lion, is the only player absent from the squad thus far.
The other three foreign base players who left with the team from
Monrovia included Godfred Miller from the United States, though
unattached, Sekou Keita who is reportedly attached to Senegalese elite
Club J'Andarc and Arcadia Toe of United Arab Emirates Premier side Al-Shababa.
Prominent among the locals are Captain Varmah Kpoto, Shelton Barlee,
George Miller, James Koko Lomell, Sackie Doe, Abu Sando and Rufus
Saydou.
The National Soccer team left the country on Wednesday with a 28-man
delegation to honor its Group-A second leg match with the Eagles of
Mali.
Liberia is fourth in the group with four points from six matches
played.
