( 02/04/2004)Monrovia-  In an effort aimed at raising funds for the preparation of the National football team, the Lone Star, the Lone Star Fund Drive Committee will this weekend hold a knockout tournament among the country's top clubs.

According to the chairman of the Lone Star Fund Drive Committee, Mrs. Joyce Reeves Woods, the games are part of activities of the Committee to raise funds for the Lone Star to begin preparation for the qualifiers of the 2006 African and World Cup respectively. She said the games will see four Liberia's leading clubs participating, namely Invincible Eleven (IE), Mighty Barrolle, LPRC Oilers and LISCR FC.

Beginning Saturday, February 7, 2004, the rejuvenated Mighty Barrolle under the watchful eyes of newly appointed coach David Nimely, will engage giant killers LISCR FC. Coach Nimely has overhauled the team and has stepped up discipline among the players.

As for LISCR FC, despite losing their enterprising midfielders, Anthony Langford to Obuasi Goldfields of Ghana, they said Mighty Barrolle will not hard to crack.

On Sunday, February 8, 2004, Liberia's darling club Invincible Eleven (IE) will battle Sensational LPRC Oilers in what soccer fans say will be a match to remember. With anxiety on the rise in IE over the news that Liberia's profound corporate lawyer, H. Varney G. Sherman is about to rescue the team, the players say they will use the Lone Star Fund Raising Tournament to welcome Cllr. Sherman to the leadership of the team.

The winners of both games will then meet in the grand final which is slated for Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS). Soccer pundits have predicted that IE and Mighty Barrolle will reach the grand final since both teams have something at stake to prove.

Meanwhile, Liberians have begun calling on sports authorities for the Lone Star to commence training early enough to enable teams like Mali and Senegal in the qualifiers. Both teams have performed thus far in the ongoing tournament
