To Commence Early Training:
Lone Star Fund Drive Committee Gives L$90,000

The Lone Star Fund Drive Committee has given the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS)L$90,000 to enable the team commence early training for the 2006 World and African Nations Cup qualifiers.

The Fund Drive Chairperson Mrs. Joyce Reeves Woods made the presentation of the L$90,000 cheque to Youth and Sports Minister-designate Cllr. Wheatonia Dixon Barnes at her Newport Street offices in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.
                                                                                                                         
In her presentation remarks, Mrs.. Woods said as mandated by the Sports Ministry upon the constitution of the Fund Drive Committee, it was fulfilling that by coming to the aid of the MYS for the Lone Star to commence training early enough for the first match against the Eagles of Mali, who just reached the semi finals of the 2004 Nations Cup finals.

She disclosed that the Fund Drive committee wrote private and public corporations to support the fund drive, out which only the likes of Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, National Port Authority, Minister of Lands, Mines & Energy Jonathan Mason, Cape Maritime among other contributed.

Mrs. then urged the Sports Ministry to ensure that the money is turned to the Manager of the National Team, who is the Liberia Football Association (LFA) for the team to commence training for the first 15 days.

For her part, MYS Minister-designate Cllr. Barnes said the money will be used of the intended purposes. She lauded members of the Committee for coming to the aid of the Government.

She also disclosed since Government approved the Ministry's allotment for the fiscal year 2004, the
Finance Ministry is yet to make that fund available.

Meanwhile, the Lone Star technical staff says it will begin training upon receipt of their salaries for the year 2004. The coaches had earlier waved the previous salaries owed them by the Charles Taylor administration.
