Lone Star Awaits 14 Pros For Senegal

Jimmy Dixon faces the Senegal Forward Line

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Lone Star technical staff is hoping that 14 of the country's foreign based players they have called will be available for the match with Senegal's Lions of Teranga.

Headed by Kadallah Kromah, the team called three players from Indonesia, namely Fallah Johnson, Anthony Ballah and Joseph Amoah, and the BK Hacken of Sweden trio of Dioh Williams, Dulee Johnson and Jimmy Dixon.

The national team selected another three players, John Menyongar, Francis Grand Pa Doe and McColm Cephas, from the United States A-League. Doe is already in Monrovia. Melvin Tarley, who plays alongside Menyongar and Doe for Minnesota Thunders, was left out after making his debut against Zambia.

The Greek-based George Gebro is also in the team in spite of missing the last match. There are reports Gebro is injured and may not come. Anthony Langford and Ben Tekloh have joined the team from Ghanaian premier league side Obuasi Goldfields. The duo has been consistent on the team, but Langford was left out against Zambia.

The Lone Star also chose John Moses, a veteran striker who plays in Hungary.
The experienced Swiss-based goalkeeper Louis Crayton is also among the players invited from overseas.

Coach Kromah has played down the desires of Oliver Makor and Kevin Sebwe to return to the team after over two years of absence.

The Coach said the two middlemen are not his priorities for now because the main focus is in attack where the Lone Star managed to grab only one goal.

The coach, therefore, decided to call an old hand in John Moses to end the goal drought on the Lone Star.

Joseph Amoah has been named for the first time since Coach Kromah took over the team.
Amoah plays in both roles as midfielder and defender for the Indonesian club Persikota.

Varmah Kpoto is doubtful against Senegal due to injury, so, Amoah could play the role of right-full back, while Fallah Johnson is expected to partner Jimmy Dixon in central defense. Chris Gbandi of US Major League side Dallas Burn is coming to beef up the defense.

Anthony Langford missed the team's last match against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Lusaka, but he will likely be available against Senegal to combine with John Menyongar, Dulee Johnson and Anthony Ballah in midfield.

The team has now begun training in Monrovia though no sooner did the technical staff begin demanding salary payment from the Liberian government.

The technical crew reportedly threatened to abandon training sessions unless their salaries are settled.

However, what is sure is that the match is set for Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
