Liberia’s Victor Carr Scores on Debut in Israel

By Wleh Bedell
Former junior international Victor Pony Prisley Carr has made
inroads with his new Israeli club Meccabi Herzliya with a stunning
strike on his debut. The towering megastar took just three minutes
to announce himself to the Israeli Liga Leumit.
The former Monrovia Breweries and Black Star box predator according
to the club's website was released by club mate Shai Biton after a
dummy from strike partner Eli Binton to unleash a ferocious shot
that nestled the net for the curtain raiser at the 8,100 seated
capacity Herzliya Municipal Stadium in Herzliya.
But, their celebration was short lived after 18 minutes when their
rivals Hapoel Herzliya fought gallantly to get the leveler in what
was termed an intriguing fixture on Wednesday.
After the match, club chairman and manager Ariel Sheiman said he was
happy with the commitment shown by his players and also noted he was
particularly impressed with the Liberian striker Carr who fit into
the team's system.
“The lad is a promising star. He has won my heart, as he adapted so
well in the team just with a short space of time", the manager
heaped praises on the player who featured for Cameroonian sides
Union Sportive de Douala and Sahel Maroua before plying his trade in
Hungary with top flight sides DVTK Borsodi and Nyereghaza Sparticus.
He moved to Israel upon the invitation of club Hapoel Jerusalem, but
on the heel of the transfer window closure, herzliya managed to do
the magic in luring him over.
The pacy forward now join countryman Dulee Johnson as the only two
Liberians playing competitive football in the land of the savior
Jesus Christ.
Dulee who last played for Swede side AIK Solna is a step above his
younger compatriot, Carr as he has since established himself in the
squad of historic side Meccabi Telaviv.
