Liberian Trio Impressive At Mabopane

April 10, 2006

The Liberian trio of James Koko Lomell, Abu Partee Sando and Fredrick Nyemah has shown impressive form at South African Mvela Golden League outfit Mabopane Young Masters. In a tournament held on Sunday in Johannesburg, South Africa, the players showed class when they led their team in winning the cup.

Lomell, who operated as a midfielder and striker, was the most outstanding as he netted in four goals and created three.

Sando created two goals, and his telling passes proved a handful to the opponents. The speedy Nyemah provided width to the delight of his side front line.

Mabopane are currently sixth on the first division log, and they are to feature the Liberian trio in next season league arriving in South Africa after the transfer deadline.

The players are said to have found life at their new club Mabopane.

The club is owned by the highly influential South African company Bahlodi which has provided thousands of dollars worth of sporting equipment to the female National U-20, before their historic 3-2 triumph over Algeria in the FIFA Female U-20 qualifiers.

Its head is the passionate football lover Aziz Kara, and is amongst the huge spending clubs in the country.

Lomell came to the fore when he featured for Haja FC before moving over to the disbanded Junior Professional owned by the legendary George Weah in 2000.

He featured for South African first division out fit Maritzburg City in 2003 where he ended as top scorer with a tally of ten goals.

He was later invited by then Premiership side Manning Rangers under the tutelage of South Africa '96 Nations Cup winning coach Clive Barker. But, poor management eluded his break through.

He then landed in Ghana where he had a brief stint with premier club Hasaacas in off season matches before coming home to help the Oilers win the premiership crown last season.

The inventive player has won eight international caps for the country, and is keen to add more to this.

Like Lomell, Sando has won eight international caps and came to prominence when he styled for then second division side SOS-Trotters in 2001.

He then joined ranks with Mark Professional before joining Mighty Barrolle. He became Most Valuable Player and top scorer in the 2004 inaugural premiership, as the Rollers won the championship that year.

He was invited to Malaysia, but it soon turned a disappointment after failing to obtain a visa. The young midfielder was then saved by former international Jonah Sarwiah, and after a stint there he returned home to continue his career in football.

Fredrick is a six capped Liberian international that first played at the top flight as a central midfielder for Invincible Eleven (IE) in 1996. He later joined St. Anthony.

After a couple of seasons, the midas feet then landed at NPA-Anchors where they won the first division championship in 2004.

A year later he helped the club to win the runners up spot, and became the Most Valuable Player.

He left the country through his child hood friend Anthony Laffor, and was to play for Cosmos, but it seems however the huge spending cash of Mabopane has lured him and his fellow country men to prefer the premiership to the first division.

All-Rounder On The Pitch

The name Pitman Wleh may not be a house hold word in the local game, but the neutrals will tell you that his game continues to improve greatly, and is a player to look out for.

This curl leg all-rounder or utility player on the park has shown by-word for the game which he takes as a career. Many say it is quite advantageous to be a utility player; as such player would be very effective in every position.

The soft spoken player who plies his trade with premiership out fit LISCR FC is an asset to the Knock-Out champ as evidenced by his usefulness every where on the park.

In the defensive third, he functions as a left wing back where his diagonal balls and over lapping runs prove a useful tool for his side.

In the middle third, he operates as a left sided midfielder or a central midfielder where his defense splitting passes illuminate his team's attacking forays.

And in attack, his beautiful dummies and swerving shots cause a menace.

Currently, they are in pole position and he believes they are going for the treble this season.

"We have resolved to win the treble this season, and though it takes brave hearts and minds to do so, we are willing to go through all of that," notes the player who launched his career at the lower division in Gardnersville.

He then landed at Barcelona where he helped them qualify to the second division. But poor health kept him out of action for more than a year, and he joined Haja when he recovered from his ailing condition.

At the club, he won a runners-up medal in 1999 via the third division play offs. After two seasons in the third division, the dangerous left footed player then joined LISCR where he has since won two Knock-out crowns and a super cup title as well.

"I love winning, that's why I love working harder to achieve a great deal," opined the player who is fondly called Bone.

Current FIFA Footballer of the Year, Ronaldinho is his favorite player, while Real Madrid is his favorite player.

With a playing style based on commitment and a positive attitude, the player who won the 2003 ISSA championship title with the Addo Mills International School System (AMISS) is looking forward to a brighter future.
