Minnesota Thunder forward
Melvin Tarley was named A-League "Player of the Week" after scoring
three goals in two victories last week. The second year player
scored a golden-goal against the Vancouver Whitecaps and put two in
the back of the net against Syracuse FC.
The Player of the Week is also
automatically named to the A-League "Team of the Week". Melvin is
the second Liberian from the Thunder to be selected for the "Team of
the Week" this season, Johnny Menyongar having been named in week 5.
Tarley and Menyongar currently lead the
teams in goals scored with three each. Melvin leads the team in
points (goals and assists) with an average of 1.20 per game.
In other news Minnesota Thunder first year
forward Francis Doe scored two goals in a friendly against a local
amateur league "All-Star" team at the Dakota County Fairgrounds in
Farmington, Minnesota.
It was Doe's first start for the Thunder this
year, due to visa delays. Francis will be gradually worked into the
team rotation, as Head Coach Buzz Lagos likes to bring first year
players along carefully.
"Around the goal mouth, he's actually
pretty sharp and can finish," said Lagos "but the rest of his game
has to develop."
At the rate it's developing, we can expect
Francis to see much more playing time as the season progresses.
