Liberian FA
Apologizes For Violence

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has apologized to the
sporting public, fans and the Liberian people for the unfortunate
acts by hooligans after the match between Liberia and Senegal in the
joint 2006 African Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers on Sunday,
October 10, 2004 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
The Liberian FA, in a statement, regretted the actions of the
hooligans whose acts led to the loss of lives and properties.
The LFA categorically denounced and condemned the action of the fans
who, it said, were concerned about discrediting its effort in
promoting football in Liberia. The LFA stated that football is
peaceful and passionate such that the game requires a winner and a
loser.
Therefore, the LFA said, in whatever case, the result must be
respected in the interest of the promotion of the game.
The LFA called on all Liberians and fans of the Lone Star to join it
in condemning and denouncing those who harbored evil intent for the
country and use the Liberia-Senegal match as a cover-up to hatch
their evil deeds.
