Liberian
Clubs Risk Missing Out

Mighty Barrolle
2004 LFA Champions
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
There is an uncertainty surrounding the participation of Liberian
clubs in the 2005 African clubs competitions.
The Secretary-General of the Liberia (LFA) Yanqueh Borsay revealed
that neither Mighty Barrolle nor LISCR FC has shown willingness as
far as registration is concerned.
According to Mr. Borsay, the LFA has written both clubs twice to
remind them about their participation, but, he said, none of the two
has responded.
"If the clubs refuse, the LFA technical committee will meet to
discuss the matter."
The LFA Secretary-General said the two clubs have until November
30, 2004 to register or risk missing out. "A minimum fees of
US$6,000.00 is supposed to be paid for registration," indicated Mr.
Borsay.
Mighty Barrolle has automatically qualified to compete in the 2005
CAF Champions League, while LISCR is supposed to participate in the
Confederations Cup. However, the LFA official said, "We need the
commitment before sending their names."
Mr. Borsay cried: "If we sit down, CAF and FIFA will not look at
Liberia because we are not always represented."
He pointed out that the problems facing most Liberian club is
"finance because most clubs are managed by individuals." Borsay
stressed the need for heads of clubs to seek sponsors if their clubs
