A former player of the national flag-bearers, the Lone Star, Jonathon Sogbie, alias “Boy Child” says if the proposed programs presented by the transitional government committee on sports would be accepted and practicalized by the incoming government, then Liberia is expected to experience a greater sports future.

“Boy Child” who was speaking on the performance of young players in the country, noted that young players in Liberia are struggling to make it up to the task, and so they must be commended for their performance in the absence of needed sports facilities.

He said, just recently, the sports committee of the National Transitional Government of Liberia came up with a blue print as regards the development of sporting programs and facilities, and if it should be implemented, Liberia stands to benefit and enjoy a better sporting program than ever before.

The former Lone Star player disclosed that most of the young players in the country are doing their outmost best when it comes to their performance, and if they are to have the facilities needed to upgrade their skills, then Liberia will once more get on the international scene.

He iterated that in order to implement these proposed and planned programs, the country must first of all begin by training people who they think will be the forerunners, because as he termed it, we cannot ask our coaches to bring a team and have them perform good when in fact the coaches themselves are not qualified.

“We must first of all attack the problem from the top, bring in the coaches for training, giving them the proper tools that are necessary to bring them to international standard, and if that is done, they will in return impart into the young players”, Mr. Sogbie noted.

Mr. Sogbie urged Liberians to exercise some degree of patience, because the process will take some time and requires proper planning, not temporary gratification. He disclosed that the minimum sports facilities in our country will be upgraded, new ones are expected to be constructed and Liberia will for the first time experience a new dispensation of sports.

The former Lone Star player used the occasion to commend the NTGL committee on sports for their efforts thus far, adding that hope is on the way. He concluded by pledging the commitment of other former Lone Star players to help improve the sporting program in the country, stressing that the time has come for everyone to work in togetherness for the betterment of this glorious land of liberty.
