Liberia captain Antony Laffor is optimistic about his side’s
chances of upsetting the Warriors when the two teams clash
in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the National Sports
Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking after the Liberians’ afternoon training session on
Wednesday, Laffor said his side was focused on collecting
all three points and nothing else.
“This is a big game for both teams. But the most important
thing for us is to collect all three points. No other result
will do so we will be fighting for victory on Sunday,” said
the dangerous SuperSport United forward.
Liberia are bottom of Group A with four points form four
games after disastrous start in which they collected a
single point from their first three matches.
Zimbabwe held Liberia to a 1-1 draw in Monrovia when the
qualifiers kicked off nearly a year ago, but Laffor insisted
that match is now water under the bridge.
“Zimbabwe are a good team and they managed to get a point
from us last year but that is now history.
“We are concentrating on playing good football on Sunday so
that we can get a result,” he Laffor.
Fellow forward Dioh Williams echoed his captain sentiments
and commented the mood within the Liberia camp.
“This is a very important game for Liberia but we have
brought a winning attitude.
“We have a lot of players who have the quality to make a
difference. We are in high spirits and looking forward to
the game.
“We are here to win and we are not worried about what is
happening in the Zimbabwean camp. We just want to
concentrate on our game, on what we can do…” William said.
Liberia, who beat Cape Verde 1-0 in June to revive their
qualification dream, have nine European based players in
their squad.
