Liberia To Face Jamaica on
Independence Day

The Liberia National team the Lone Star of Liberia will face the
reggaeboyz of Jamaica on July 26th, Liberia’s national Independence
Day. The game is being organized by Mr. Jeffery White, owner of
Jamaican NPL club Village United and manager of Liberian
international, Eddie Kingston.
“We are glad to be in the position to organize such a historic match
to mark the independence of Africa’s oldest republic and a new
beginning in their history,” Mr. White was quoted as saying.
Recently, Liberia’s international grace the Jamaican NPL with a
couple of performances for Village United, and was an instant hit:
“I felt at home. I felt the love. Jamaican’s are Africans true, and
true”, Kingston said. Village United finished the Jamaican league
lying mid table. It was not the first time a Liberian has been
associated with Jamaican Football.
A few years ago, George Weah took a young Lone star team to Jamaican
for an international friendly. A few Jamaican fans still remember
the soccer legend strolling down the national stadium with those
famous red boots.
Mr. White said there are still a few logistics to be ironed out
before the official itinerary is confirmed and released. “We are
glad to have started the process and will work frantically for it to
be a success,” he said.
Eddie for his part said, the significance and timing of the game
will be great for the country and for Liberian football. “Jamaica is
a quality opposition, and to get a chance to play them is a great
way to start our campaign for the next ANC qualifying and for the
new coach to show what he is made of. Liberians already know what
the players are capable of. We just hope the FA can provide the
coach with the resources to assemble a quality Lone star team.”
