Liberia Set To Fire National Coach

Joseph Sayon alias Kofi Bruce |
By Julu Johnson, Jr.
A new coach for the national team of Liberia, the Lone
Star, is being sought for at the moment.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has declared the position
vacant and has asked local men apply for the job.
The LFA appointed Joseph Sayon alias Kofi Bruce to succeeded
Kadallah Kromah, who resigned, but the governing body of local
football has opted to seek a new man for the job.
The LFA did not give any reason for sidelining the man whom they
promised that, as caretaker manager, would be in charge for the rest
of the team's five matches.
Coach Sayon only took charge of the match in Dakar that Liberia
disastrously lost 6-1 against the Lions of Teranga of Senegal.
The poor result produced by Sayon may be a contributing factor for
his imminent removal but another reason could be that the Youth and
Sports Ministry has refused to endorse him.
Sports Minister Counselor Wheatonia Dixon-Barnes has persistently
said Sayon was not her choice for the job. She has placed her hope in
former national coach Wilfred Tijani Lardner as the right man for the
Lone Star.
The latest news could stall early preparations for the Lone Star
which the Sports Ministry disclosed were scheduled to start this week
in Monrovia.
The Lone Star will meet the Eagles of Mali in the seventh round of
matches in Group One of the joint 2006 African Nations and World Cups
qualifiers.
Liberia lies second from bottom in Group One with four points in six
matches having lost three matches in a row. |
