The Liberia Football Association (LFA) will today name a head coach to
be and deputy helm of the Liberia National team the Lone Star to
complete the remaining batch of matches after the Mali encounter next
weekend in the joint 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
Six coaches have
applied for the position of head coach.
They include Wilfred Tijani Lardner, the first man to take the
National Team to the Nations Cup in 1996, Frank Jericho Nagbe, six
times award winning coach as well as tactician of premiership leader
NPA-Anchors.
David Nimely, coach of Premiership defending champs Mighty Barrolle,
last season premiership best coach, Raymond Moutton of Invincible
Eleven, Darlington Boye formerly of division one outfit Bassa
Defender, and current Joseph Sayon alias Kofi Bruce.
Others in the race for the deputy position are National U-17 coach
Francis Tamba, sacked LPRC-Oilers coach Thomas Ampomah as well as more
house university graduate Kasumu sallah.
After critically perusing the documents of all Coaches, and holding
interviews, the committee responsible for the selection of the two
positions are expected to inform the sporting populace as to the pair
to embark upon the arduous task of handling the crest fallen Lone
Star.
Meanwhile, applications are being presented by interested individuals
for the position of Administrative manager of the Lone Star. A
position long occupied by the highly experience Brazilian trained
tactician, referee and manager Wortor Anderson.
Though the full detail of all those who have applied are not known,
reports say the incumbent Wortor Anderson and Mighty Barrolle and
Mighty Administrative manager Kille Miler have since applied.
Pundits are however taken aback by the FA’s decision in finding a new
manager. The rationale is not known though; many believe the football
house is neglecting its priories since of course the position of an
administrative manager is quite a delicate one.
“I do not know the justification in finding a new administration
manager. The FA must explain” pointed out Albert Dwey of Paynesville.
Other believes Mr. Andereson has spent more than two decades at the
position and at such there could be room for complacency.
“The LFA should be thinking on more constructive thing like mending
fences with the irate professionals, organizing a well structured
youth program and making its league viable by finding sponsors”, a
Lone Star crony noted.
“The idea of a new coach is justifiable. But, the issue of finding a
new administrative manager is high should eyebrow rising and the FA
should stop dwelling on trivial matters”, an observer noted.
With all these bickering the quest of when the new manager is expected
to get on board is still not known as many continues to worry on the
future of the Lone Star.
