Egyptian Mohmoud Hussein Shawky has been officially named as
the new coach of Liberia.
He takes over from Joseph Sayon whose contract as the Lone Star
coach expired in December.
Shawky will be in charge of the team for four years under a
bilateral agreement between the Egyptian and Liberian Governments.
Egypt will be paying the coach's wages while Liberia are
responsible for his accommodation and other expenses.
"I'm here to work with you to build a solid team for Liberia,"
Shawky said.
"I don't see why Liberia is not at the African Cup of Nations
right now in my country.
"You have a lot of very good players and I have worked with
some of them in other countries."
Shawky's career has seen him working in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon
and his home country Egypt mainly at youth level.
Liberia Football Association (LFA) Vice President Pennoh
Bestman welcomed the arrival of the coach.
"We hope he can share his expertise with us so that our
national team can shine again and we will especially be focussing
on the 2010 African Cup and World Cup qualifiers," Bestman said.
