Liberia have named Frank Jericho Nagbe as their new
coach putting an end to speculation that they would withdraw
from the 2008 African Nations Cup qualifiers.
Nagbe, who was named by the Liberia Football Association
on Wednesday, will also take charge of the country's
under-23 team.
"My goal is to qualify for the 2008 Nations Cup and this
is a challenge that I intend to overcome by building a new
team," Nagbe told BBC Sport.
"A good blend of local and foreign based players would be
my immediate strategy for getting us to Ghana 2008.
"But as we are also building for 2010, emphasis would be
placed on building a solid home-based squad.
"I expect that the Liberian FA and the Sports Ministry
will both be forthcoming in their respective
responsibilities to make my job easier."
Nagbe worked as an assistant to player-coach George Weah
during the 2002 World Cup and African Nations Cup qualifiers
and intends to use his expertise to help Liberia.
"I will have to contact him to see what sort of role he
would like to play," he said.
The new coach's first major test will be in September
when Liberia meet Equatorial Guinea in Group Five of the
2008 Nations Cup qualifiers.
