Liberia Invited
To U-20 Basketball Championship
-But National League Still Faces Hurdles

Basketball Federation (LFB) has disclosed in the Liberian capital,
Monrovia that the National U-20 basketball team have been invited to
participate in the preliminaries rounds of the 2md African Nations
Championship.
According to LBF Secretary General Fred J.A. Pratt, the Preliminaries
of the 2nd African Nations
Championship for the Male Under 20 of the Zone III will be held in
Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso from 25th to 30th May 2004.
He said in ensuring that Liberia participates in this prestigious
tournament, the LBF has already submitted a budget of US$28,000 to the
Ministry of Youth and Sports for onward forwarding to the Government
for approval and disbursement.
The budget submitted according to Chief Scribe Pratt, will cover air
travel, medication, per diem, uniforms, etc.
Liberia is asked to register 16 players and four officials with their
dates and birth place attached as
well.

The LBF said it is hoping that the Government will approve the budget
so that Liberia can be represented in this international basketball
fiesta.
Meanwhile, Chief Scribe Pratt has disclosed that there is a problem
facing teams expected to participate in this year's league season.
He said most of the clubs have complained of their materials being
looted and requested time to recover. But LBF fears that the
more the delay, it will be in the position to run the league due the
raining season being in late March and early April running to
September.
The LBF Chief Scribe also disclosed that the Sports Ministry has
liaised with the General Services Agency (GSA) and Liberia electricity
Corporation for paint and electricity to be provided the Federation to
renovate the playing court and install electricity.
