deal with the Sundowns
Mabhudi Khenyeza is cleared to play for SuperSport United
with immediate effect after the drawn-out transfer talks
between United and Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns reached
a successful conclusion last night.
Anthony Laffor has joined Sundowns, and Franklin Cale and
Mabhudi Khenyeza have joined United, while Tebogo Langerman
will join Sundowns from United only at the end of the
season.
Khenyeza had signed a pre-contract with SuperSport but was
only expected to win his release to play for Matsatsantsa
when his contract expired at the end of the season. United
had pushed hard for his immediate clearance, and eventually
won this, while hanging on to Langerman for the remainder of
the season.
SuperSport also received “an undisclosed transfer fee on the
transaction,” according to their chief operations officer,
Jose Ferreira. “The negotiations with Mamelodi Sundowns were
long and difficult, but I am very happy with the final
outcome of the negotiations. The transfer is hugely
beneficial to us in that I believe that our squad has been
undoubtedly strengthened with this deal.”
Ferreira believes the two additions more significantly
strengthen United’s squad for the title chase against their
rivals, than the move of striker Laffor in the other
direction.
Liberian National Team Captain Antony Laffor reported
to Chloorkop for his first training session, this after he
sealed a deal that will see him stay with ‘The Brazilians’
until June 2015.
It was a moment that he has been waiting 'for a ver long
time', the payer told Sundownsfc.com. 'I am very excited
that this has now become a reality.'
“I’m feeling very happy to finally be a Mamelodi Sundowns
player, and the players in the team have welcomed me very
well, which makes me feel right at home. I’ve been waiting
for this moment for a very long time now and I’m very
excited at the prospect of playing alongside the top players
in the PSL” explained the lanky midfielder.
Upon meeting his new teammates, the Liberian international
had this to say; “I still can’t believe that I will be in
the same team as Teko Modise, Cheeseboy and Pelembe, and
these are only some of the many great players in Sundown’s
squad”.
Laffor will be wearing jersey number 24 for ‘The Brazilians’
and he says he is looking forward to the challenge and wants
to make the supporters happy by delivering the goods on the
field of play.
“This means a lot to my family and my fans” concluded Laffor.
The Supporters were also asked on the official Mamelodi
Sundowns Facebook page to help select a jersey number for
the skilful midfielder and the majority of them selected
jersey number 24
