Lady Zico Wins Oilers Presidency On White Ballot

 Geraldine Doe Sheriff

What many describe as a clear mandate was given over the weekend when another corps of officers were elected on white ballots on Saturday June 24 to take over the leadership of the Oilers Sports Association (OSA).

At a well attended election held at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) Cafeteria on the Busdrod Island, the OSA Elections Commissioner Alexander Kojo Anderson said only four candidates had applied for the various positions in line with Saturday June 17, deadline.

Commissioner Anderson named the four cleared persons as Geraldine Doe Sheriff, only candidate for the Presidency; Amanda Bribane, lone candidate for the position of the Vice President; while George Pusah and James Jappah are also lone candidates for the positions of Secretary General and Business Manager respectively.

The OSA Elections Commissioner noted that because of the four candidates have no contestants, they would be given white ballots. It was from this point that the four candidates were given white ballots to sail through as the next leaders for the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) for the next two years.

The elections were hailed by the Liberia Football Association representative Varneh Kamara as free, fear and transparent. Mr. Kamara said democracy is healthy for the development of the game and hoped that all other associations would follow the example of the LPRC-Oilers family in moving the game forward.

In brief chat with reporters following the elections, the President-elect Geraldine Doe Sheriff said she was overwhelmed with the confidence that has been reposed in her by the LRPC-Oilers family.

She noted that her major concern is to revamp the team to its pre-war status in order to be on par with other clubs on the continent.

LFA League Update

The second phase of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) national league continued over weekend across the country.

In Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Mighty Barrolle continued to maintain the lead on the eight teams log when they held the NPA-Anchors to a one all draw.

BYC scored 2-0 victory over Zelors F.C to brighten their chances in the first division category in Kakata town, Margibi County, while struggling Invincible Eleven (I.E) scored a convincing 3-1 victory over Mighty Blue Angles to renew their hope in the first division.

In Unification Town, Margibi County, Karn United and USA-Invaders played to goalless draw, and Monrovia Club Breweries defeated Mark Professional 3-1.
