As the
Liberia Track & Field Federation (LTTF) intensifies its
preparation for local and foreign track athletics, it has
released the names of thirteen potential athletes for the
world’s biggest athletic event - the “Olympics”.
The
Secretary General of the LTF), David Kollie, told The
Analyst Saturday that the federation has submitted the names
of seven home-based and six foreign-based athletes to the
Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) for onward
submission to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as
Liberia’s representatives to the world for the athletic
competition slated for the Greek capital, Athens.
Athletes whose names have been submitted
are Gladys Thompson, Ephriam Fayiah, Henry Tickler, Anthony
Whea and Cynthia Bee.
Others are Akie Tamba, Bill Rogers, Slanger
Doe, Grace Dinkins, and Christopher Sayen. The rest are
Debra Bome and Willamette Summer.
Mr. Kollie also disclosed that the thirteen
athletes selected for the event would have to participate in
two major IAAF competitions, which will serve as a basis in
finding the qualifying time for the world’s prestigious
athletic events in Athens,
Greece.
Already, reports say the local parent-body
- the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) - had spent
over US$2500.00 for the training of the home-based athletes.
This will be Liberia’s second appearance at
the International Olympic games and will be represented this
time around in three disciplines - Track &Field, Swimming
and Tennis.
