By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) is eager to see Liberia present at the 2006 Zone Three Games in Abuja, Nigeria.

The President of the LNOC, Mr. Philibert S. Browne indicated that the games will propel Nigeria's bid to host the Commonwealth Games In Abuja.

He disclosed that the games would begin on November 14 and end on the 19th with all eight Zone Three nations expected to partake in various sporting events. They are the host Nigeria, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Niger, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Ghana.

The LNOC President said that Liberia will participate in four events at the Zone Three Games. He named them as athletics, table tennis, football and volleyball.

According to Mr. Browne, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been approached about the forthcoming events and that the Ministry was informed regarding the political issue surrounding Liberia's presence there.

He mentioned that the tournament will bring together about 800 delegates including athletes and officials.

"We were asked by the Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sports that they were relying on us.

"I am sure President Sirleaf will be informed of the need for Liberia to participate after Nigeria has helped us in so many ways," cried the LNOC President.
