LNOC President Praises Olympic Participation

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The President of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) has described as fantastic Liberia s participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Perhaps her first post-Olympic comments, Mrs. Deborah J. Williams said her organization learned a lot while in Athens last month.

By Liberia s participation, Mrs. Williams said the LNOC would embark on a number of works as the country prepares for the 2008 Games in Beijing, China.

Unlike past Olympics which had only track and field representing Liberia, Mrs. Williams promised to take at least events to the next Olympics.

She expressed gratitude that Sports Minister Whatonia Dixon-Barnes was in Athens to see what transpired.

The LNOC president stated that the Sports Minister has thus vowed to give the LNOC the necessary support by improving the federations and increasing the number of events going to the Olympics.

She , meanwhile, called on parents to encourage their children to participate in sports.

Mrs. Williams said sport is worth taking part in and makes one to become somebody. She also said sport makes one healthy.
