LISCR gets off to a winning start

LISCR FC has begun the Liberia Football Association 2009 premiership league season on an impressive winning note.

The former Knock out Champions pulled a deserved 4-0 victory over a confused UMC Roots FC over the weekend at the refurbished Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

It was a day of disappointment for Defending Premier Champions Black Star FC.

The game got up to a fashionable start for the Gardnesville based outfit under the guidance of interim coach Swen Bedell.

LISCR managed to grab their first set of goals in the opening 11 minutes of the encounter.

George Baysah started the goal party for his side two minutes after the kick off from close range.

The center back took cue of a disjointed UMC Roots defense to strike few yards from goal before Patrick Doeblah got the other nine minutes later.

Vitalis Sieh should have extended his side’s lead 10 minutes after from a sweet looking Doeblah’s cross but the former NPA Anchors goal getter instead blasted wide from the far post.

Patrick Doeblah made it three nail for LISCR FC in the 26 minute, but was shown a yellow card by LFA’s 2008’s best referee Jerry Yekeh for a second kick into the goal.

Swen Bedell’s men looked truly dominant and powerful in every department the one-sided pairing.

George Baysiah put the game beyond expectations 13 minutes before the interval from a weak header after a Gizzie Dorbor corner.

With endless cheering from their fans, UMC Roots returned from recess with the hope of overturning LISCR lead.

They got the half well on by getting hold of a bit of possession and creating some chances in the opponent’s terrain.

The pressure was well enough for them to get their lone goal.

Skipper Alexander Seyon rose to the occasion 36 minutes from time to score from the penalty spot a minute after Murphy Nagbe had handed in the box.

Day one of the national football jamboree was painful for Defending Premier league Champions Black Star FC.

They were whipped by a goal to nail by a rejuvenated Gedi & Sons side at the Unification Town Sports pitch.

The only match played on Sunday ended goalless between Sensational LPRC Oilers and Jasmine Rangers
