LFA not aware of CAF draw

Written by Anthony A. Stephens

The Liberia Football Association says it has not received official information from CAF regarding the exclusion of the country’s representatives from its competitions.

CAF is the Confederation of African Football.

The group in its recently released fixtures did not pair Premier league champions Mighty Barrolle and Knockout Champions Barrack Young Controllers into the group stages of both its champion’s league and the African Confederation Cup.

LFA Deputy Secretary General for Technical Affairs Benedict Yarsiah told Star Sport his group forwarded the name of league Champions Mighty Barrolle to CAF for registration into the Champions league.

Mr. Yarsiah said the name of BYC was not forwarded to the Aftican football governing body for adminantence into its Confideration Cup due to the failure of the club to register for the event.

But the club President Sekou Konneh said he received misinformation from the secretarit of the LFA regarding the participation of his team into the competition.

Mr. Konneh said he was ealier told by the secretarit of the FA that his club would have participated in the WAFU (West African Football Union) Competition.

He said the latest development poeses serious embarrassment to the club but however asured fans and symphtizers of the Dark Horses that all was being done to ensure their team showcase at the Conferderation Cup.

Star Sport has understood that CAF’s decision was based on the failure of LFA to settle its arears in the tune of over twelve thousand United States Dollars (12,000.00).

Mr. Benedict Yarsiah confirmed the information and said discussions were being held with the Minsitry of Youth and Sports to settle the debt.

The LFA Deputy Secretary General for Technical Affairs said a huge potion of the debt was the remaitance of CAF share for the 2010 World Cup and Nation’s Cup qualifiers.

The LFA was given two warning letters; one in September and the other in November to settle its arears with CAF before the action was taken but didn’t pay any attention to them.

Many football fans have termed the news of the exclusion of the country’s representatives from the CAF competitions as a serious setback to football development in the country.
