Forson Speaks On LFA Elections, Says
Change Is Necessary
The forthcoming elections of the local football
governing body (LFA) is said to be drawing concern both locally and
internationally as former Invincible Eleven (IE) Vice President for
Operations based in the United States has been expressing concern
about the pending elections.
In an interview with The Analyst Sports Desk on Monday by phone,
former IE Vice President for Operations, Edward Forson, said the issue
for change at Liberia Football Association (LFA) was question of the
down trend the game was taking in the country.
Mr. Forson said change for the FA was necessary especially at the top
if the game is to move forward.
He also said leadership was in the hand of the President in any
institutions and the failure of the President to implement will
definitely have a direct effect on the inability of the President to
performance.
According to him, the incumbent President, Izetta Wesley has nothing
to prove to the growth of the game in the country, following years in
administration at the local football house.
He said since becoming Vice President for Administration at the FA on
the expense of Young Survival Football Club in 1997, her interest for
the game is yet to be seen, as evidenced by her negation of Survival.
"What has Wesley done for Young Survival that one can reflect on as a
person who has the game at heart, since she rode on the name of the
team for leadership?
"Where was Izetta Wesley when Young Survival was at the point of
dissolution? But Survival gets her where she is today. Her retention
at the head of the FA will mean another setback for the football in
the country," he pointed out.
Commenting further, Forson said this was time that the interest of the
game should come above personal interest so as to move the game
forward.
"Those who are championing the cause for Izetta Wesley to be
re-elected, known within themselves that Madam Wesley has not done
anything to promote the game," he added.
The former IE Vice President for Operations, who is pursuing higher
education in the United States of America, pointed out that power
should be given to those who have a track record of promoting the
game, especially at the youth level.
According to him Mr. Siaka Sheriff is among the few who strive to see
the game move forward and could make big difference when given the
chance to take over the local football house.
He however called on all potential voters to support Mr. Sheriff's
quest for leadership at the local football house as a new day for
football development in the country and asked them to support him on
March 18, in Kakata, Margibi County.
Meanwhile one of the candidates in the ensuing LFA Elections, Siaka
Sheriff will leave the capital on Wednesday, March 15, for two
counties. The counties include River Cess and Grand Bassa.
Already there are reports that residences of the two counties are
planning massively for the arrival of the LFA incumbent Vice President
for Administrative, Siaka Sheriff.
