LFA Sticks To Jericho

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Frank Jericho Nagbe is the likely candidate to take over the
national soccer team of Liberia, the Lone Star.
Informed sources indicated that from the list of applicants for the
top job in Liberian football, the man commonly called “Baba The
Wizard” has emerged victorious already.
The former NPA Anchor tactician, who guided the port side from the
first division to the 2nd place in the premier league, is reported
to
have gone through the screening processes conducted by both the
Liberia
Football Association (LFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The appointment of Coach Nagbe, sources added, would be officially
revealed very soon.
Amidst plans by the Sports Ministry to withdraw the national team
from the 2008 African Nations Cup qualifiers, Jericho’s primary
objectives would be to qualify the team for the finals in Ghana and
to build a brand new national squad to meet the challenges out
there.
The alleged preferment of Jericho by the LFA did not come as a
surprise to many soccer connoisseurs at all.
Though the previous leadership of the Sports Ministry, particularly
the then Minister, Cllr. Wheatonia Dixon-Barnes, did favor Wilfred
Tijani Lardner, the LFA Executive Committee persistently maintained
that Jericho was the coach it wanted for the Lone Star.
Jericho boasts of a splendid curriculum vitae as player and coach.
He played for the Invincible Eleven (IE), a stint in La Cote
d’Ivoire and the national team of Liberia.
He went on to coach La Modelle International, Junior Professionals,
St. Anthony and the NPA Anchors. Jericho currently heads the Black
Stars.
He succeeded in bringing to light the likes of Christopher Wreh,
Zizi Roberts, Kay North, Francis Carr, Sunday Seah, among others.
