LFA Releases Fixtures But…

By Roland M. Mulbah

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has released the fixtures for the commencement of its 2009 National league, but some clubs in the top flight (premiership) are complaining on the manner in which the fixtures were arranged.

At about 4:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2009 after the fixtures were released by the local football house, some premier clubs complained about home grounds as well as playing in the middle of the week which they said posed serious financial burden.

“Our fans and supporters will not have the opportunity to watch most of our games. The fixtures should have been arranged at weekends,” some clubs presidents cried.

LFA triple Black Star argued with the LFA that it home ground had previously been at Nancy Doe Sports Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County, but due to the renovation of the FIFA goal project on the stadium , the team moved at Unification Town (UNT) pitch in lower Margibi.

Now that the stadium is completed, the team wants to regain the stadium at its home, but the LFA is yet to respond.

“We will not honor the opening match against Gedi and Sons on Saturday in UNT because UNT is not our home. Nancy Doe Stadium is completed why the LFA will carry our home games at UNT and allow other teams to open the Nancy Doe stadium?” Black Star President Alvin J. Wright noted.

LISCR FC boss Mr. Mustapha Raji also frowned on the LFA saying he sees no reason why the LFA will ignore ATS as the team’s home grown and assign most of the team’s matches away from the ATS especially the match involving Watanga FC in Kakata and Watanga home ground being ATS also.

“The LFA must revisit the fixtures so as to allow the league be carried on peacefully. We all agreed to week together for the good of the game and to develop football in Liberia,” LISCR FC president Mr. Mustapha Raji noted..

Whether or not the LFA will make some adjustments in the fixtures, but all is now set for the league to commence Saturday, March 28, 2009.

At the ATS in Monrovia on Saturday, March 28, 2009, LFA youthful premier outfit UMC Roots will lock horns with highly rated LISCR FC in the only match.

LISCR FC is expected to feature some experienced Liberian International players including Lone Star Captain Murphy Komonple Nagbe who has just returned from the broken led injury will start his soccer career at fresh on the local scene with LISCR FC.

The team’s Captain Gizzie Dorbor who made his International debut for the read, white and blue outfit against Mali in 2006 will be at work as left back, while more than 10 caps George Baysah will also be on hand in central defense to partner Murphy Nagbe.

Much is not known of UMC Roots that was bought recently by a Russian Billionaire, but Sengbah Sayon and colleagues can not be taken as pushovers in the duel.

Elsewhere at UNT pitch in Margibi County, LFA triple champ Black Star will engage another youthful outfit in the premiership Gedi and Sons.

Black Star will depend on the services of Captain Soso Jeke, LFA MVP James Soto Roberts, Lone Star goalie Clarence Roberts, defense icon Rufus Joemah, goal customer Bill Sheriff and other talented players to probably launch their campaign in an effort to retain the LFA premiership.

But their opponent, Gedi and Sons will not be an underdog in the contest as midfield warriors Andrew Dorley and Jimmy Tarlu as well as goalie Mulbah Uray and others have been on top of their games in recent seasons and could cause an upset.

On Sunday at UNT pitch, Jasmie Ranger will take on LPRC Oilers in a match considered in many quarters as a “do or die”.

It can be recalled Oilers failed to sign Rasmie’s trio in the form of Freeman Mulbah, Gus Totimeh and Momo Blamo Jr. due to the LD$200,000.00 transfer fees for each player.

The players have since return to their team and they are expected to face Oilers on Sunday.

Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven (IE) will engage each other in a charity match on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the ATS.

The match is the Mrs. Henrietta V. Kandakai Peace and development tournament.

The league continues next week with more exciting matches.
