LFA National League Begins Soon

February 21, 2006

Reports reaching the Liberiansoccer.com site say the 2006 campaign of the LFA National championship begins soon. Sources close to the football house noted that a total of 46 teams in the various divisions are to vie for silver ware.

The LFA 2006 championship campaign is expected to begin soon. Sources close to the local football house say a total of 46 teams will vie for silver ware at Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia, the Nancy Doe stadium in Kakata, Margibi County, as well as the Unification Town sport pitch and the Doris Williams sport pitch in Buchanan and Smell No Taste respectively.

Nine clubs will battle for supremacy in the premiership; also nine clubs will do same in the first division, while Seventeen and eleven clubs will battle in the second division male and female category. The premier clubs include defending champions LPRC-Oilers, runners-up NPA-Anchors, Knock-champ LISCR FC, Monrovia Breweries, and Roots FC. The rest are former champions Mighty Barrolle, Mark Professionals, and new entrants Black Star FC and Watanga FC.

The first division clubs include Gedi&Shoes, Karn United, USA-Invaders, Bassa Defenders and Blue Angels.

Others are Alliance FC, Invincible Eleven (IE) as well as new entrants Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) and Zelors.

The second division male clubs include Fulani, St.Joseph Warriors, Haja FC, Exodus, Olympic Conqueror and United Green Eagle. Others are Roza, Survivors, Devereux, Millennium stars and Paynesville Young Controllers (PYC). The rest are Diamond FC, LTC Satellite, Young Pro, Small Town, New Georgia Pirates, and Mighty Electrons.

Clubs in the second division female category include, Determine Girls, Shooters, Earth Angels, Kebeh, Senior Professionals and Kortie IE. The rest are Blanco FC, Tito United, Queens, Pro Anchors Sisters and Antares Sisters.

Though the local league is behind many other leagues on the continent, its followers will concord that some promising youthful players are expected to show case their talents.

There have also been some key transfers with First division champ Black Star expected to parade a star studded squad. The likes of the creative James Zotai formerly of Karn united, incisive Saygbeh Kennedy from Roots and the sleek Victor Carr are some of the new faces in the Pennoh Bestman side. But the key figure as usual will be the young live wire Melvin Kicmett who ended as the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) last season. Relegation survivors Mighty Barrolle will also parade an avalanche of youthful stars with the net buster Alex Nimely and the crafty left foot Patrick Doeplah of BYC and Roots FC respectively, leading the pack for new signings.

However, the explosive left footed player Nuzohn Kulala remains the Rollers lynchpin. He is arguably the best in the country, and if he can carry his impressive form during the off season campaign to the national league, this could well be his year.

Watch out next week for the list of new signings and key players in all 46 teams.
