                    Garmondeh Karnga, cochairman

All is now set for young Liberian footballers to showcase their talents after a protracted period of delay over the opening of the 2009 edition of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National league.

Liberiansoccer.com Reporter Roland M. Mulbah seals through the details and give a glimpse of the opening fixtures as well as latest transfer of players as the long awaited LFA 2009 National league begins on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in more than three venues.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has finally announced the opening date for its 2009 National league.

There has been long standing controversy between clubs Presidents and the LFA with respects to the opening of the 2009 National league, but in a brief chat with the cochairman of competition committee of the LFA, Mr. Garmondeh Karnga who is also President of premier outfit Mighty Barrolle, he told reporters that the league will begin on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in several venues, but the ardent follower of Liberian football only disclosed two fixtures for the opening date.

Mr. Karnga said defender champions Black Star will battle youthful Gedi and Sons at Unification Town sports pitch in Unification Town, Margibi County, while Mustapha Raji’s LISCR FC locks horns with another youthful outfit UMC Roots at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on UN Drive in Monrovia.

Teams in all divisions have intensified training ahead of the competition, but the issue of transfer is complicated based on the LD$200,000.00 associated with the league as transfer fee for players.

It can be recollected late 2008 after the Zurich, meeting with Federation of International Football (FIFA) and representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the LFA as well as boycotters of the 2008 LFA 2008 National league and participants of the league, said amount for transfer was agreed by stakeholders of Liberian football.

Besides the LD$200,000.00 as transfer fees, it was agreed the premier clubs would pay their players and officials a minimum salary of LD$2,000.00, get insurance for its players, find office space as well as home ground for the upcoming National league.

The LD$200,000.00 has now becoming a burden for clubs and poised a difficult situation for players to be transfer.

Only players considered free agents have had the opportunity to be transferred to their favorite team for the upcoming National league.
