LFA
Female Program Criticized
Monday, May 22, 2006
Bassa Defenders President Jeremie Russell has criticized the method
being used by the LFA on female football decentralization. According
to Mr. Russell, the idea of forming female clubs in every county
does not augur well for the development of female football in the
country.
He stated that such formula is of no good, and cited the female U-20
heavy 9-1 defeat to Nigeria recently as evidence. “Forming clubs in
every county is not the best option.
There is a need to start organizing Female U-13, U15 and U-17
competitions where the players will have the fundamental lessons
instead of jumping hurriedly to assemble players who will be made to
just play at the ATS,” he noted.
According to him the LFA method is an indication that they are only
planting trees and not seeds. “There must be organization, and not
any form of poor program,” he opined.
Speaking further, the administrator noted that the LFA should embark
on training coaches and administrators as well organize workshops in
these counties for people to learn instead of quickly forming female
teams that would be of no relevance.
He said “when these clubs are from the grass roots, many young girls
will generate interest in female football.” He then called on the
LFA through its head on Female football to see reason in putting
forth a comprehensive program that would yield dividends in the next
few years.
“When a good program is put in place where the game will start from
the grass roots, a tournament like female county meet can take place
in 2008,” he concluded.
