Closes League , Lone Star Departs

The Liberian FA, in collaboration with its chief sponsor
Cellcum GSM, will today, August 26, 2011 bring down the
curtains on the 2010/2011 Cellcom national league season at
the SKD sports complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
The ceremony was delayed due to the three international
friendliest against the Gambia, Angola and Niger in
Monrovia. The occasion will be graced by scores of
dignitaries, including football promoters and sports
officials.
Awards will include the championship crown, knockout title,
highest goal scorer, as well as MVP, among others. The LFA
will also honor individuals and institutions as contributors
to the promotion of the game, including Banks and other
corporate partners. The 2010/2011 closing ceremony will pave
the way for the commencement of the 2011/2012 league season,
expected to begin in September.
The program will be followed by the departure of the
national team for Harare, Zimbabwe to honor its nation’s cup
match against that country. The local contingent is expected
to leave the country tomorrow, Saturday.
Watanga FC Recruits’ Eleven
Liberia’s premiership outfit Watanga FC has completed the
signing of eleven players and a few more to be concluded
before the kickoff of the Liberian premiership league next
month. The unveiling of the players took place during the
club’s honoring program held to appreciate players for
performing well during the just-ended one-phase Liberian
premiership league.
The club’s expectation is to improve its ranking or capture
the premiership title this season after finishing 4th on the
table for the first time in its history since joining the
league seasons ago.
Watanga FC succeeded in recruiting relegated Black Star’s
goalkeeper Galley James, Morris Tarr of National Port
Authority, as well as David Beyan and Amara Sackor of
another relegated side, Jasmine Rangers, Dama Jallah, Khalid
Hassan, Thomas Tamba and Sporo Somah of Black Star.
According to the club’s President Dee-Maxwell S. Kemayah,
Sr., the club was still searching the transfer market for a
few more players to conclude its roster for the new season.
Although the club missed out on the Knock-out and
premiership title, Watanga FC vowed to be a more formidable
side in the championship this season
