The Liberia Football Association has announced it would award cash
prizes to teams at the end of the current league season.
A statement from the association said the three top teams in each
division of the league would receive the cash awards. The LFA did
not state the amount the teams are to receive but said it was
intended to strengthen the financial position of teams that are to
represent the country on the international scene. The football
association has also endorsed a number of recommendations from its
competition committee.
Among recommendations approved include the promotion of three teams
from the first division to the premiership and six teams from the
second to first. The football association has also suspended
relegation of teams for this season. The Acting Secretary General
told Star Radio the measures are aimed at promoting the growth of
the game.
Mr. Napoleon Jeaploe the FA gesture would benefit all teams in the
country. Mr.Jeaploe also disclosed that three teams would be
promoted to the second division from the annual third division
playoffs. The LFA usually promotes two teams to the first division.
Meanwhile,an Executive Member of the Liberia Football Association
says the decision to promote three teams to the premier league was
not to favor a particular team. Mr. David Kortie said reports that
the LFA decision was intended to promote Invincible Eleven on a
silver platter are untrue.
