LFA To Collaborate With LICORNET

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Liberia Community Radio Network (LICORNET) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in National Football pledge and football competition sponsored by USAID/Liberia Transitional Initiative (LTI).

According to the MOU, as stated in a press release, LICORNET is responsible to provide media publicity for a national soccer pledge competition to be implemented in six of the fifteen counties in Liberia. They include Nimba, Bong, Grand Bassa, Margibi, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount Counties.

The project, which is a sixty-five thousand (US$65,000.00) grant to the LFA from USAID through the LTI, seeks to rally support for and catalyze the Peace and Reconciliation process using soccer, a popular sport in the country.

The project is aimed at encouraging the youth in and out of school and to focus on peace messages both through a contest and through the promotion of new soccer peace pledge to be voiced at every soccer game of the LFA.

The MOU, which was signed on October, 12, 2004, was done by Jeddi M. Armah on behalf of LICORNET while Yanqueh Borsay, Secretary-General, signed for the LFA.
