LFA Rejects Weah
As Bassa Defender President

LFA Secretary-General Yanqueh S. Borsay
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The appointment of George Weah as President of Bassa Defender is yet
to be sanctioned by the Liberia Football Association (LFA).
The first division side has already informed the LFA about the
appointment of Weah and others at the helm of the club.
But in reply, LFA Secretary-General Yanqueh S. Borsay, in a letter
of August 30, 2004, refused to endorse the club's decision.
Borsay said, "the LFA cannot endorse such a communication in the
absence of an election that should have been held and the LFA
officially invited to participate and witness same as it has been
practiced under the LFA that all teams' elections should not be held
or conducted without the presence of the LFA."
Hence, Borsay informed Bassa Defenders that until the conditions set
forth by the LFA are met, the club's letter of August 27, 2004
informing the football house about Weah and crew's appointment would
not be sanctioned by the LFA
While the LFA is yet to recognize Weah and his corps of officers,
the former Bassa Defender President J. Boakai G. Russell maintained
that he has resigned form the presidency of the club.
He then told the LFA to address all communications relating to the
club to its president, with apparent reference to George Oppong
Manneh Weah, whom the club crowned last Sunday as its new leader.
"I acknowledged receipt of your communication addressing me as
President of Bassa Defender. However, I think it was an oversight
because my communication upon which you acknowledged receipt dated
August 25, 2004 informed you of my resignation," Russell told LFA
president Izetta Wesley.
