      The 2002 Liberia Football Association national soccer tournament officially climaxed Saturday with several teams, players, officials, sports administrators, deserving institutions and individuals snatching awards in various categories.

League Awards

The Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company-Oilers convincingly clinched the prestigious Barclay shield from ex-reigning champs Mighty Barrolle. Oilers also collected the Super Cup Champions Shield, a feat unprecedented in the last decade of the LFA national soccer league history.

LISCR FC was awarded the league Runners-Up Award while newly promoted Watanga FC garnered the second division shield. Watanga automatically qualifies for Division One, closely followed by Roots FC who clinched the 2nd Division Runners-Up Award.

Giant Killer Mighty Blue Angels' sparkling performance in the just-ended league secured for them the enviable Champion Knockout award. Blue Angels now sail through to Division One. Mark Professional of Division One collected the Runner-Up Knockout award.

In the female category, Tito United emerged Champs and snatched the coveted Championship Award. Earth Angels also collected two awards: the Female Champions Knockout and the Runners-Up Championship Award. Pro Sisters convincingly collected the Female Runners-Up Knockout Shield.

Hard running Sounjata Warriors won the Division Three Champions Award, followed closely by Barrick Young Controllers who collected the Division Three Runners Up Award. Both teams automatically qualify for the Second Division.

Achievement Awards

The highlight of the Awards ceremony centered around the Most Valuable Player Award named in honor of World Best Player George O.M. Weah. Enterprising Varney Boakai of reigning champs LPRC-Oilers was meritoriously given the MVP trophy for his outstanding performance in the 2002 LFA soccer league.

Preston Corporal of Watanga FC was also named MVP in the Second Division, while Christina Myers and Alexander Robinson won the MVP Awards in the Female and Division Three categories respectively.

The Best Defender Award, named in honor of veteran Liberian defender Washington Blay, saw Shelton Barlee of LPRC-Oilers and Chedigar Williams of Roots FC winning in the First and Second Divisions respectively.

Dekontee Sayon of Earth Angels and Boima Fahnbulleh of Sounjata Warriors also won the Best Defender Award in the Female and Division Three categories respectively.

The David Momo Best Goalie Award was convincingly snatched by magic hands Boye Pratt of the LPRC-Oilers while Sorsor Joemah of Mighty Blue Angels won in the same category.

Tito Sisters' Alice Watson and New Georgia Pirates' Sam Doe also emerged winners of the prestigious David Momo Best Goalie Award in the Female and Division Three categories.

The Samuel Burnette Highest Scorer Award was won by Hoff Fannoh of Division One LISCR FC. Fannoh scored a total of 15 spectacular goals in the LFA league. In the Second Division category, Bill Sheriff became the highest scorer with 17 goals. Daniel Peters of Fairason and Andrew Swaray of Barrick Young Controllers won the Highest Scorer Award in the Division Three category.

Christopher Doh of LISC and Mastinus Collins of Watanga FC won the Coach of the Year Award named in honor of the late Walter Pelham. Lucretia Togba of Tito United and Christopher Shain of Sounjata Warriors also won the Walter Pelham Coach of the Year Award in the Female and Division Three categories respectively.

Benedict Yarsiah was named the LFA Best National Referee while Ebenezer Konah received the Most Improved National Referee Award.

Spectators

Monrovia Club Breweries and St. Joseph's Warriors clinched the LFA-FIFA Fair Play Award for the First and Second Divisions, while Professional Sisters and Barrick Young Controllers collected the LFA-FIFA Fair Play Awards in the Female and Division Three Categories respectively.

Meanwhile, several sports journalists also received their flowers in the just ended LFA national championship league.

Hilary Colnoe of DC 101 FM Radio and Siebo Williams of The News newspaper and Liberian Soccer Website  both received the LFA Sport Reporter of the Year Award.

The event was climaxed by exuberant fanfare.
