LFA Maintains Blockade On Weah

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

From all indications, the legendary George Weah is yet to become the president of the division one side Bassa Defender.

Over the weekend, the Secretary-General of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Yanqueh S. Borsay stood his ground by saying Weah is not recognized.

Borsay even though believes he holds nothing against the former Lone Star captain.

Borsay said the matter is a "statutory one" that could not be reversed for the sake of Weah.

Borsay, meanwhile, disagreed with suggestion from former LFA president Edwin Snowe who recently called for a conference to resolve the purported row between Weah and the Liberian soccer governing body.

According to Borsay, there exists no feud between the Liberian FA and Weah that warrants a conference to bring peace.

Though he failed to elaborate, Borsay disclosed that it is Weah that must apologized to the LFA.

He was apparently demanding the apology on grounds that the former soccer star has been critical of the LFA and its president Counselor Izetta Wesley.

Weah was recently named as president of Bassa Defender following the resignation of J. Boakai G. Russell.

The LFA, through a written communication from Mr. Borsay, rejected Weah s appointment.

He said, "the LFA cannot endorse such a communication in the absence of an election that should have been held and the LFA officially invited to participate and witness same as it has been practiced under the LFA that all teams elections should be held or conducted without the presence of the LFA."

Since then, Bassa Defender which appointed Weah has yet to change its decision.

The club said as far it was concerned, it sticks to the decision and that Weah is its president.
