Liberian soccer star Mohamed
Konneh, alias Ayama Debah
Konneh immigrated to Australia in 2004 and now plays for the Adelaide Comets Soccer Club. He previously played for Adelaide Port Pirate and Adelaide Western Toros, where he helped promote them from the State to the Premiere League.
Now known among his peers for his effective dribbling and goal scoring skills, Mr. Konneh told LiberianSoccer.com: “I’m delighted and deeply honored to be conferred upon with such a title among other great players in the league.”
Konneh thanked his club coach, his many fans and all others who voted for him. Konneh told journalists he has his eyes set on the English (Great Britain) league where he intends to play for Manchester United, and he plans to visit England at the beginning of next season for a trial.
On the success of a fellow Liberian, the chairperson of the Liberian community of South Australia (LICOSA) Mr. Reagan Bledee expressed satisfaction for Debah’s achievement.
“It is amazing to see Mr Konneh take home the award,” Mr. Bledee said. “I can’t be more proud.”
Meanwhile in a related development, all the members of the female soccer team that represented Liberia at the just ended Homeless World Cup in Melbourne, Australia have all disappeared.
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the players checked out of their hotel “without any prior notification to the hotel staff”.
