The upcoming Liberia Football Association (LFA)
elections slated for March 20, 2010 has gained momentum all over the
country with several individuals, who have interest in contesting the
elections declaring their intentions for the process.
Already, businessman and President of LFA premier
club, Watanga FC, Mr. Musa Bility and former LFA General Secretary,
Mr. George Wah Williams have all declared their intention for the LFA
Presidency and are expected to face strong resistance from incumbent
Cllr. Sombo Izetta Wesley, while former Liberian International
striker, Mr. Musa Shannon has also declared his intention to contest
the forthcoming LFA elections as Vice President for Administration.
There have been cries all over the country that
there is a need to bring on board new administrators at the helm of
Liberian football who have the urge, desire and commitment in driving
the country's game forward.
Yesterday, Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at a well
attended Press Conference in Monrovia, ardent follower of fashionable
Liberian football Sekou Konneh, who is also President of LFA 2009
knock out champions Barrack Young Controller (BYC) as well as LFA
Executive Committee member , declared his intention to contest the
upcoming Liberia Football Association (LFA) elections as Vice
President for Administration (VPA).
Mr. Konneh noted that as strategic stakeholder
and developer of the game and not just mere spectator, one who has
more than 27 years of experience in football development, it was time
that he goes to the leadership of LFA to bring about transformation.
“As you may be aware the LFA is gearing towards
Congress which is an election congress.
“As a major stakeholder in the process, we
thought it was important to call you to give our position regarding
the upcoming LFA Congress.
“The LFA over the period is going through serious
transition and as an organization there are periods in the history of
the organization where it goes up meaning there is a peak period and
there is a period at times it does not go right either because of
attempt to transform it but with different perception as to how people
see the transformation.
“Today, we have called
you here today to officially announce to you our interest in the
upcoming LFA election.
“We are independent in
this process and we are coming with vast experience to reach all out
to the people in this transformation period.
“With the LFA in
crisis, people from diverse backgrounds will be comfortable in working
with us.
“We have spoken our
mind where it was necessary and we think we have played vital role in
the development of football in Liberia,” Konneh, who is also a
professor at the University of Liberia noted.
Mr. Konneh said with
one of the LFA weaknesses being the secretariat; he believed his
ascendancy at the LFA VPA, which has complete responsible of the LFA
secretariat, will go a long way in the transformation of football in
this tiny West African Country of ours.
“The LFA secretariat
is charged with the responsible of running football in this country so
you need a very good VPA who will make the secretariat work with plan
and not just by heart,” he noted.
