Kelvin Set Retirement Date

Flash Back ( Kelvin Sebwe was inconsolable after Liberia lost to Ghana)

As it is often said, one wouldn’t say there’s any bad about being famous really, the attractions come with it.

Attraction of the world popular sport, football will come to Liberia when several world famous footballers including Ivorian and Chelsea star, Didier Drogba and Cameroon and Barcelona goal king, Samuel Eto’o visit Liberia for the official retirement ceremony of one of Liberia’s longest serving International footballers in the form of Kelvin Sebwe.

After making his International debut in the 1-1 draw in 1988 against Tunisia in an International friendly, Liberian International midfield veteran, Kelvin Sebwe will officially hang his boots and say goodbye to football on June 25, 2009 in Monrovia.

                                                    

The match, which is being organized by Football for Hope Liberia headed by three Liberian football administrators Watanga FC president Mr. Musa Bility, LISCR FC president Mr. Mustapha I. Raji and Watanga Senior Vice president Mr. Andy Quamie, will take place at the Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) sports stadium in Paynesville where several world active and retired footballers are expected to grace the occasion.

In an interview with the Secretary General of Football for Hope Liberia, Mr. Andy Quamie, he told this website that all is being put in place for the match that is set to see Liberians witness the midfield veteran finally hang his boots after serving his country for more than 20 years.   

Born April 4, 1972 and served as Vice Captain and later captain of Lone Star, Kelvin was considered king of penalties while showcasing for his country.

He is a midfielder with vast experience, including eight seasons in Europe between France, Belgium and Greece.

He was taken by George Weah to Europe in 1989 and began with French side AS Monaco before moving on to Toulouse in the same league.

He was also on loan to Belgian club RC Liegios for a season in the '90s, where he was voted best African player in the Belgian league.

He was the first Liberian to play in Greece and appears to be the driving force in many Liberian players ending up there.

Reports gathered say, Kelvin was instrumental in making his younger countrymen, Solomon Grimes and George Boe secured professional contracts in Greece where he (Kelvin) currently resides and plays for that country’s third division outfit, AO Kavala.

Some stars to visit Liberia for the jamboree are: Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto'o, Jayjay Okocha, Lilian Turam, Abede Pele, Kwame Ayew, Barsi Bulee and Jean Piere Papin.

Some Liberian stars who are expected to form part of the ceremony are King George Oppong Manneh Weah, James Salinsa Debbah, Christopher Wreh, Zayzay Roberts, and Dionysius Sebwe as well as other talented Liberian International players
